What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a core therapeutic modality within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that has been practiced for thousands of years and is increasingly integrated into modern medical care. The treatment involves the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific anatomical points on the body to influence the nervous system, circulation, immune function, and connective tissue physiology.

Modern research demonstrates that acupuncture can modulate neurochemical signaling, regulate inflammatory pathways, and stimulate the body’s natural pain-relieving mechanisms. Through these mechanisms, acupuncture helps restore physiological balance and support the body’s natural healing processes.

When applied within an integrative clinical framework, acupuncture may assist in the management of musculoskeletal pain, neurological conditions, stress-related disorders, sleep disturbances, hormonal imbalance, digestive conditions, and chronic inflammatory diseases.

Benefits of Acupuncture

Pain Management
Acupuncture can help regulate pain signaling pathways and stimulate the release of endogenous opioids and anti-inflammatory mediators. It is frequently used for back pain, neck pain, joint pain, headaches, and sports injuries.

Neurological Support
Acupuncture may support nerve repair, improve circulation to neural tissues, and help regulate nervous system function in conditions involving neuropathy, nerve irritation, or neurological recovery.

Stress and Emotional Health
Acupuncture can help regulate the autonomic nervous system and support the management of anxiety, stress, insomnia, and mood imbalances.

Internal Medicine
Acupuncture is commonly used in integrative medicine to support digestive health, hormonal balance, immune regulation, and chronic inflammatory conditions.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Yes. Acupuncture is used by people every year. Acupuncturists are required to undergo extensive education, including detailed study of human anatomy and training in Clean Needle Technique. I have complete the Pan-Canadian board exams for TCM & Acupuncture in 2008. These comprehensive national board examinations are administered by The Canadian Acupuncture Association of Canada.

As required by law, I use pre-sterilized, disposable, thin surgical needles to ensure your complete safety.
